Description
With a possible weight of over 500 pounds and a height of up to 6 feet from head to tail, the Giant Tortoise of the Galapagos Islands (Geochelone elephantopus) is the largest living tortoise. This slow-moving animal moves at a rate of 0.16 miles per hour, feeding on prickly pear cactus, fruits, bromeliads, water ferns, leaves, and grasses.
