Description
Scanning electron micrograph of wool from sheep. As wool, the hair of sheep, goats, camels, and rabbits are designated. In the picture the typical scaling of the animal hair can be seen. Raw wool (from the freshly cut animal) contains 50 to 70% by weight fats and dirt that must be washed out before spinning. The wool fiber consists of proteins and is composed of 18 different amino acids. Magnification 1600x (at 15 cm image width).
