Description
Chamaeleo lateralis, a chameleon from Madagascar, has several anatomical peculiarities in addition to it's well known ability to change color. It's eyes can move independently of each other. It's tongue has a sticky, club like tip and can be shot out to a length equal to that of it's body. This enables the chameleon to capture insects from a distance. The toes of each foot are fused into two opposed groups and the tail is prehensile. These are both adaptations for arboreal life.
