Description
Autofluorescence image showing optic nerve head druzen. Drusen are yellow lipid deposits that form between the retinal pigment epithelium and the Bruch's membrane of the retina. Hard drusen are small and spaced out while soft drusen are large and clustered. Drusen composed of calcium salts and protein can also form on the optic nerve head. This type can occur at any age. Optic disc drusen can sometimes affect peripheral vision. However this is uncommon and vision is unaffected in most cases.
