This is a male Black Swallowtail, not a Palamedes. In the dorsal view, the Palamedes has two yellow stripes on the head. The Black has two yellow dots. The Palamedes abdomen looks dark dorsally and there are yellow stripes ventrally. The Black has spots which may often be seen dorsally, like in your photo. The male Black's submarginal yellow spots are separated by black outlines on the hindwing and the Palamedes become so close together on the hindwing that they become a band. The Black has black spots inside the orange "eye spots". The Palamedes does not. The Palamedes has a yellow line in the tail. The Black does not. I came across your beautiful photo while doing research on the Palamedes. I usually only click on educational sites or butterfly identification sites but your photo is very beautiful, so I clicked on it to have a look. Then, I noticed it was a male Black Swallowtail, so I thought you might want to know.
