Description
Color enhanced thumbprint. Fingerprints are used as a means of identification, often in criminal investigations, because they are not only unique to the individual, but also remain the same over a lifetime. There are four main types of patterns or fingerprint classes arch, tented arch, whorl, and loops. Fingerprint identification was discovered by Sir William Herschel in the 19th century and was first used as evidence in the trial of a murder by Henry Faulds.
