Description
Color enhanced Scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of a blood clot, showing red blood cells, platelets, and fibrin strands. When a blood vessel is damaged, platelets become activated and secrete chemicals that cause the formation of a fibrin mesh. This mesh traps red and white blood cells, forming a clot that seals the damaged blood vessel. Magnification 3,000X at 8x10" print size.
