Description
Mexican Free-tailed Bats (Tadarida brasiliensis), emerging from Bracken Cave, near San Antonio, Texas, Aug. 2. The 20 to 30 million bats in the cave may be the largest colony of mammals on Earth. The bats are emerging at dusk and are photographed here against the sky, using a slow shutter speed and rear-curtain flash, which captures their blurred silhouette before the flash fires.
