Description
Abdominal arteries. Colored angiogram of the arteries of the abdomen. The aorta runs down the center of the image, it is the main artery of the body. It carries oxygenated blood from the heart to the rest of the body. At top right is the splenic artery, which carries blood to the spleen. The next branch from the aorta, at left, is the hepatic artery, which serves the liver. At center the two renal arteries (right and left) branch from the aorta and carry blood to the kidneys (green). At the bottom of the image the aorta divides into the two iliac arteries, which serve the legs. Angiography uses an injected contrast medium to show blood vessels on an x-ray.
