Description
Found at the Sanctuary of the Great Aten Temple, this fragment is attributed to Akhenaten. The inner corner of one eye is visible alongside the nose. The especially long line alongside the nose and lips and the sinuous upper lip support the identification. Akhenaten was an ancient Egyptian pharaoh reigning circa 1351–1334 BC, noted for abandoning Egypt's traditional polytheistic religion and introducing Atenism, worship centered on the sun disc Aten. Indurated limestone, ca. 1353–1336 B.C., Egypt, Middle Egypt, Amarna.
