Description
Medical visualization showing neurons, blood vessels, and amyloid plaques in relation to each other. Many researchers believe that amyloid proteins are associated with Alzheimer's Disease. This protein is located within cerebral spinal fluid, thus the fluid can be tested for levels of amyloid. If the levels of these proteins show significant change, researchers believe that the amyloid peptide may be accumulating and forming amyloid plaques, which could affect nerve signaling pathways. These plaque conglomerates form around nerve cells in the brain, and are thought to cause nerve cell death and negatively impact memory, cognition, and decision-making skills. Cardiovascular disease is also linked to Alzheimer’s disease.
