Description
In this remarkable case of ant-caterpillar-plant mutualism, the ant (Formica perpilosa) taps on the feeding caterpillar (Hemiargus isola, the Mexican blue) for nectar excreted by a nectary organ. The plant (Acacia constricta, the white-thorn acacia) is protected by the ants and nourished by the ant nest.
