Description
Bubble chamber event anti-kaon momentum. 72 inch event shows the characteristic kinked tracks due to both a negative and positive sigma, May 5, 1962. The tracks streaming up from below are negative kaons. Two of them interact with protons in the chamber's liquid to produce the typical short, kinked tracks of a positive sigma (lower center) and a negative sigma (upper center), together with negative and positive pions. The positive sigma decays to a positive pion and a neutron; the negative sigma higher up decays to a negative pion and a neutron. Negative particles curve clockwise, positive particles counterclockwise in the chamber's magnetic field.
