Polarized light micrograph (PLM) of atropine, also known as daturine. Atropine is a poisonous, crystalline alkaloid taken from the deadly nightshade (Atropa belladonna) and the thorn apple (Datura stramonium). Atropine is used as an antispasmodic and to dilate the pupils of the eyes. Magnification 4x.
