Description
The Battle of Morbihan was a naval engagement between Roman and Veneti vessels on the Loire river, 56 BC. The Veneti were a seafaring Gallic people who lived in the Brittany peninsula (France), which in Roman times formed part of an area called Armorica. Like the rest of the Gauls, they were conquered by Julius Caesar in the Gallic Wars fought between 58 and 51 BC. Surviving members of Julius Caesar's Legio X Equestris were given lands in the area that today is called Narbonne. Illustration made from a bas-relief on the walls of Narbonne.
