Darters are a group of benthic, perciform fishes that live along the bottoms of river and stream in North America. Many have small ranges and are imperiled or endangered. This is the Black Darter (Etheostoma duryi). Photographed in Blue Spring, a tributary of Guess Creek, NE Alabama, April 2018.
