Tangled protein filaments (neurofibrillary tangles) occur within nerve cells, and patients also develop brain lesions of beta-amyloid protein. Alzheimer's disease accounts for most cases of senile dementia. Symptoms include memory loss, disorientation, personality change and delusion.
