Description
Darters are a group of benthic, perciform fishes that live along the bottoms of river and stream in North America. Many have small ranges and are imperiled or endangered. This is the Buck Darter (Etheostoma nebra). Photographed at the Conservation Fisheries Inc. facilities, 22 June 2018. The species is listed as 'critically imperiled' by Nature Serve. The species is endemic to the Buck Creek system in Kentucky; the small drainage, Buck Creek, is part of the middle Cumberland River.
