Reconstruction of the sponge, Canistrumella alternata, from the Middle Cambrian Burgess Shale (Stephen Formation) of British Columbia. Only a single specimen of this elegant wine-glass shaped sponge has so far been recovered. Its alternating bands of perforated and solid panels are quite striking. The cup was approximately 100 mm. in diameter.
