Description
A caduceus or serpent entwinned staff, 1923. The caduceus is an ancient symbol that is often associated with the medical profession, although the correct symbol is actually the rod of Asclepius, which has no wings and only one snake. In their logos, professional medical associations mainly use the staff of Asclepius, while commercial organizations use the caduceus. Confusion over the two symbols arose when the the caduceus was adopted as a logo by the Medical Department of the United States Army in 1902.
