Description
This plane film chest x-ray revealed the presence of a pulmonary infiltrate. This, as well as other diagnostic findings, indicated that the patient was suffering from a case of Candidiasis, which lead to the onset of candida pneumonia, a fungal infection caused by members of the fungal genus, Candida spp. A species of this genus, Candida albicans, is a normal inhabitant of the human mouth and gastrointestinal tract. These organisms are normally harmless, but under circumstances involving immunosupression, which is seen in individuals with AIDS or undergoing chemotherapy, these fungi can become unruly and pathogenic.
