Alcoholism. French engraving from the 1770s of three women enjoying a drink of gin punch. Underlying this caricature of alcoholism is the seriousness of this disease. Alcohol is an addictive substance which can cause irreversible damage to the heart, liver, brain and nervous system. Engraving by John Collier (1708-1786), May 1773.
