Description
Cefuroxime (Ceftin) 500 mg tablets. Ceftin is in a group of drugs called cephalosporin antibiotics used to treat many kinds of bacterial infections, including severe or life-threatening forms. Ceftin is prescribed for mild to moderately severe bacterial infections of the throat, lungs, ears, skin, sinuses, and urinary tract, and for gonorrhea. Ceftin tablets are also prescribed in the early stages of Lyme disease. Patients allergic to either penicillin or cephalosporin antibiotics such as Ceclor, Cefzil, or Keflex must consult their doctor before taking Ceftin. There is a possibility that they are allergic to both types of medication; if a reaction occurs, it could be extremely severe. If shortness of breath, a pounding heartbeat, a skin rash, or hives develops, medical attention is needed immediately. Ceftin tablets and Ceftin for Oral Suspension contain cefuroxime as cefuroxime axetil.
