Description
Color enhanced scanning electron microscope image of Rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS, green) with a chimeric antigen receptor cell (CAR-T lymphocyte, orange). CAR cells are used for immunotherapy against cancer. In this form of immunotherapy, T cells are are obtained from a patient and modified so that they express receptors specific to the patient's particular cancer. The T cells, which can then recognize and kill the cancer cells, are reintroduced into the patient. RMS is a highly malignant soft tissue tumor resulting from degenerate, immature mesenchymal cells (cells that form muscles, tendons, adipose tissue, connective tissue). It is especially common in children. Magnification is 4000x at 10 cm wide.
