Description
Color enhanced scanning electron microscope image of an ependymoma cell attacked and killed by CAR cells (reddish). The CAR (chimeric antigen receptor) cells are used for immunotherapy against cancer. In this form of immunotherapy, T cells are are obtained from a patient and modified so that they express receptors specific to the patient's particular cancer. The T cells, which can then recognize and kill the cancer cells, are reintroduced into the patient. Ependymomas are usually referred to as slowly growing glial tumors derived from the ependymic cells of the internal brain chambers and the central canal in the spinal cord. Magnification is 2000x at 10 cm wide.
