Artist's Description

Clams, classified as bivalves, have two tubular extensions called siphons. One brings water and algal food into the mantle cavity, and the other expels wastes. The foot is well developed in burrowing clams, and the siphons are longer in species that burrow deeply. NW Pacific Coast, USA.
