Description
Colored scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of a wool fibers. Wool is the hair of sheep, goats, camels, and rabbits. Up to 70% of the weight of wool from a newly shorn animal is fat and filth, that must be washed out before spinning. The wool fiber consists of proteins, built by 18 different amino acids. The red fibers seen are synthetic in origin. Mixed materials are spun into the wool, forming different blends. The long synthetic fibers make the thread high more durable, while the wool fibers provide insulation for cold climates 1,000x.
