Color enhanced scanning electron micrograph of common mullein (Verbascum thapsus) of the family Scrophulariaceae. The herb prefers warm, nutrient rich places. The leaves are coated with a dense felt, that makes them appear grayish. These leaf hairs protect the plant from elevated water levels through evaporation and from fungi. The picture shows the epidermis and two glandular hairs. Magnification 650x
