Description
Various species of crustose lichens on a rock in the Swiss Alps at an altitude of 2000 m. Lichens are among the most fascinating forms of life on the planet. They are a symbioses of a fungus and a green alga. Both partners complement one another in such a way that they can live in the most extreme environments in which no other organisms can survive. Lichens are always the first pioneers of life after a catastrophe.
