Artist's Description

Blue-green algae orcyanobacteria, swirls around a rock in Lake Okeechobee, Fl. Cyanobacteria is one of earth’s oldest organisms. It is a bacteria and dates back 3.5 billion years. Exposure to this bacteria can cause gastrointestinal illness in humans and has reportedly been linked to ALS, Alzeiheimers Disease and cancerous tumors of the liver. The bloom covers a large area of Llake Okeechobee in Florida and was caused by heavy spring rains mixing with fertillizer runoff from surrounding farmlands.
