Description
3D Visualizatoin showing the negative effects that hypertension can cause to the eye. Hypertension (or high blood pressure) can cause severe damage to the retina (pictured), which can lead to blindness. The retina is a thin layer of tissue located in the back of the eye. It functions to send signals converted from light to the brain. Because of the excess pressure that hypertension creates, the blood vessels in the retina can be damaged, and the lack of blood flow can cause nerve damage. If this process is left untreated, blindness can occur.
