Description
Delicate arch in Arches National Park, Utah. The arch is called Delicate Arch and has been formed by the faster erosion of soft rock than surrounding harder rock. The erosion of the rock is mainly due to the abrasive effects of wind-blown sand. Other sources of erosion include periodic, heavy downpours of rain, and extreme temperatures. The Arches National Park has more than 1500 rock arches. These are the product of 100 million years of erosion.
