Artist's Description

Color enhanced scanning electron microscope (SEM) image of dividing cancer cells. Adenocarcinoma cells undergoing cytokinesis (cell division). Cytokinesis occurs after nuclear division (mitosis), which produces two daughter nuclei. The cells are still attached by a cytoplasmic bridge (thin thread). Adenocarcinomas are cancers that arise from glandular tissue in the lining of an organ. Magnification: x2,000 when printed at 10 centimeters wide.
