Description

The Petri dish is e.coli. E. coli O157H7 is one of hundreds of strains of the bacterium Escherichia coli. Escherichia coli is a leading cause of foodborne illness. Cattle are the principal source of E. coli O157 infection; they carry E. coli O157 in their intestines. Meat can become contaminated during slaughter, and organisms can be accidentally mixed into meat when it is ground. The green background is Escherichia coli in FA stained section of intestine from an 8-month old child suffering from chronic diarrhea.
