Description
This color enhanced axial (cross sectional) T2-weighted MRI image shows a large, destructive mass (yellow-orange) involving the clivus, sphenoid sinus, and sella turcica which represents a chordoma. This mass is heterogenously bright (white) due to the increased water content. These are aggressive primary malignant tumors of notochordal remnants. 50% occur in the sacrum, 35% in the clivus and 15% in the spine. Peak incidence of these tumors is in the fourth to sixth decades and there is a moderate male predominance.
