Description
Anterolateral view of a sectioned eye. The retina, the layer of tissue on the inner wall of the eye, contains specialized cells called rods and cones that are responsible for the sensation of light. The dilation and constriction of the iris and the focusing of the lens guide light into the eye and through to the rods and cones, which respond by sending electrical nerve impulses through the optic nerves to the brain.
