Description
Color enhanced scanning electron micrograph (SEM) showing alco-combated cross-linked spun silk from recombinant electrospun spun silk protein. The silk was spun onto a nylon net as carrier material. In this way very fine, efficient filters can be produced. Furthermore, spider silk protein can be used as a coating of implants, wound dressings and as a carrier of medication. Methods of biotechnology have been developed to produce microparticles, films, gels, fibers and other products made from pure spider silk. Thanks to the Chair of Biomaterials, University of Bayreuth, Hendrik Bargel for the sample. Magnification 10,0001 (at 15x12 cm image size).
