Artist's Description

Entitled; "Feeding by means of a gastric tube inserted after excising part of the alimentary tract necessitated by blocking of the gullet." a noteworthy surgical success achieved by a French doctor, Monsieur Terrillion, with Mr. X, a 53 year old man who had suffered for years from obstructions in the gullet. Using a rubber tube, Terrillion made a connection between the patient's stomach and abdominal wall, thus making it possible to introduce liquid nourishment such as beef tea and thin gruel directly into the stomach.
