Description
George Boole (1815-1864) was an English mathematician. A largely self-taught schoolteacher who eventually became a professor of mathematics at Queen's College in Cork, Ireland. In an attempt to link mathematics and formal logic for the first time, he developed a new form of algebra (now known as Boolean algebra or Boolean logic) in 1847. This work contributed greatly to the development of digital computers and is also used in fields such as statistics and probability.
