Description
Feathers are mostly made of keratin, the protein that is also found in hair, claws, and reptile scales. A central shaft branches into many slender barbs, each with dozens of smaller barbules that interlock to form a strong, light, and flexible surface. Feathers insulate the bird as well as providing it with the ability to fly. Mag x400.
