Description
Diagram of the human ear. The inner ear enables the analysis of sounds and their transmission to the brain through the auditory nerve. It includes the vestibule, the semicircular canals and the cochlea. It is also responsible for the sense of balance. The external ear is composed of the auricle and the external auditory meatus. The external and middle ear permit the harnessing and transmission of sounds. The middle ear is composed of the eardrum, hammer, incus, stirrup and eustachian tube.
