Description
Reptile scales come in many varieties. Depending on how large the animal is a snake or lizard's skin develops either small granular scales or large plate-like scales, which can overlap or lie side by side. Ridged or smooth, scales serve to conserve water and keep the reptile warm. They can also protect it by growing into sharp spines. The scales in these images were molted by a pet iguana named Limbo.
