Description
Justice stands blindfolded as people around her are being tortured. The Latin motto at the bottom reads "The aim of law is either through punishment to correct him who is punished, or to improve the others by his example, or to protect the generality by overcoming the evil." Pieter Bruegel the Elder (1525/1530 - September 9, 1569) was the most significant painter and printmaker of the Dutch and Flemish Renaissance movement. Engraving by Philippe Galle after a drawing by Pieter Bruegel.
