Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney (Mrs. Harry Payne Whitney) wearing a jeweled gown and tiara and holding a peacock feather fan. During the Victorian Age in the United States Tiaras were being seen on non-royal ladies of means. By the 1920s, the tiara and similar tiara headbands became popular in the united states. They were worn not only with formal ballroom gowns, but became popular with the Flappers and their parties. Fashion is a popular style or practice, especially in clothing, footwear, accessories, makeup, or furniture. Fashion is a distinctive and often habitual trend in the style in which a person dresses. It is the prevailing styles in behavior and the newest creations of textile designers. Prior to the mid-19th century, most clothing was custom-made. It was handmade for individuals, either as home production or on order from dressmakers and tailors.
