Artist's Description

Atmospheric debris (dark spot, arrow) on Jupiter caused by the impact of an an asteroid or comet. Although the spot appears relatively small, estimates put it at about the size of the Pacific ocean. The spot was first noticed by an amateur astronomer on July 19, 2009. This image was taken July 28 using a Dmk firewire camera & 10" scope; 1195 frames; stacked.
