Artist's Description

"From Ivanif [sic] Tower, Kremlin, Moscow," a photograph taken by Roger Fenton (English, 1819-1869) in 1852. Fenton, who had taken up photography a few months earlier, traveled to Russia with an acquaintance who was constructing a bridge for Czar Nicholas I. This image is one of the earliest surviving photographs of Russia.
