Artist's Description

Launch of the Space Shuttle Challenger mission 51- L from pad 39B, Kennedy Space Centre, Florida on the 28th January 1986 at 11. 38am (EST). Seventy- three seconds after lift-off the spacecraft exploded killing all seven crew members. The cause of the accident is under investigation, but it is thought that O-rings in a seal on the right hand solid rocket booster failed & the subsequent leak of fuel resulted in the explosion.
