Description
Liver, with a coronal-sagittal wedge removed from the right lobe. Falciform ligaments and an inferior vena cava, a large vein that drains blood from the upper body into the right atrium of the heart, are also visible behind the liver. Hepatocytes, liver cells, process incoming nutrients and produce bile, a fat emulsifier, as well as store vitamins and detoxify the blood.
