Description
Color enhanced scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of macrophage (a type of white blood cell) attaching to a surface; magnification 1000x at 35mm. Macrophages are immune system cells that are found in tissues rather than in the bloodstream. They recognize foreign particles, including bacteria, pollen and dust, and engulf and digest them in a process called phagocytosis. They also play an important role in stimulating other immune cells to respond to infection.
