Description
Gamma-hydroxybutyric acid molecular model. Carbon gray, Oxygen red, Hydrogen cyan. GHB is a naturally occurring substance found in the central nervous system, wine, beef, small citrus fruits, and almost all animals in small amounts. It is used legally as an anesthetic and illegally as an intoxicant sometimes, though rarely, as a date rape drug. It is also produced as a result of fermentation and therefore is found in small amounts in wines and beers. GHB is sometimes referred to as liquid ecstasy, liquid X, or liquid E due to its tendency to produce euphoria and sociability and has been popular in the club scene. Medically it has been used to treat insomnia, depression, narcolepsy, and the treatment of alcoholism.
